Monero subaddresses explained
Explainer · October 2026.
Every Monero wallet can generate unlimited subaddresses — all of them route to the same wallet and the same seed, but they're cryptographically unlinkable to outside observers.
Why use them
- Per-sender separation: give each client, exchange, or mining pool its own address. If one sender's records leak, they can't connect it to your other income.
- Bookkeeping: label each subaddress ("pool payouts", "client A", "tips") so you know what arrived from where.
- Free and instant: generating a subaddress costs nothing and needs no network round-trip.
How
In Cake Wallet, Feather, Monerujo, or the official GUI, open the "Receive" tab and create a new subaddress with a label. Use a fresh one per counterparty as a habit — it costs you nothing and compartmentalizes your financial life.
